Golfing Star Leona Maguire Supports Local Hospice

Local hero, Leona Maguire, is now the Patron of St. Christopher’s Hospice, serving the local communities in Cavan and Monaghan.

Her involvement coincides with full planning permission for a major extension and refurbishment of the existing Hospice. Partnered by the Health Service Executive, St. Christopher’s will finally be upgraded to a fully-fledged integrated Specialist Hospice service. This will provide inpatient beds and quality palliative, home, day and respite care, without entering an acute hospital. People towards end of life, can move seamlessly between hospice and home, according to their needs.

Costing around €6m, the state-of-the art Hospice development will have 16 bedrooms with all the latest technologies. Patients can have full control of their interior environment along with personal patios and garden access. Refurbishment of clinical, patient, family and communal areas has been agreed, along with landscaping of outdoor space and gardens. When completed in 2024, St. Christopher’s will greatly enhance the end-of-life palliative care experience for patients and their loved ones.

New Hospice Patron, Leona Maguire, stated ‘I am very proud to become a patron of St Christopher’s Hospice. Cavan will always be my home and I know what an invaluable resource St Christopher’s is to patients and their families in our community. I’m happy to help and support all of St. Christopher’s team as they continue the incredible work they do, delivering essential end of life care with dignity and compassion’.

Most of the building costs are provided jointly by local donors and the Government.

There is still a requirement for additional funding, to ensure that the hospice services the needs of patients and families in Cavan and Monaghan. To make a donation and for further information visit our donation page HERE
